Sanatorium Metallurgist, Tskaltubo, Georgia. Built in the 1957 as a spa resort for Soviet workers, abandoned since the 1990s.
Across its ballrooms, corridors and patient rooms, chairs remain — not scattered but placed, as if whoever sat in them had simply stepped away. This series follows those chairs through nine spaces.
The building is deteriorating. The furniture is waiting. Both conditions have persisted for thirty years.
That is ending. Tskaltubo is scheduled for redevelopment, and this building with it. The rooms will be rebuilt. The chairs will not be in them.
